ALMOST ELEVEN  The Murder of Brenda Sue Sayers
BY
HARRELL GLENN CROWSON

ALMOST ELEVEN - The Murder of Brenda Sue Sayers is the documentation of the January 7, 1965 abduction, rape, and murder of ten-year-old Brenda Sue Sayers in the small town of Brawley, California. Imperial Valley's biggest crime is detailed through volumes of official records and interviews with witnesses, relatives, and investigators.
Serial killer Robert Eugene Pennington not only murdered Sayers, but was a suspect in killing Dorothy Ann Minor-Hindman in Fresno and potentially fifteen other innocent victims from coast to coast including one victim attributed to the Boston Strangler.
Extensive research provides the reader with details of Pennington's life before and after his encounter with Brenda. The investigations by the sheriff's offices of Merced County, Imperial County, Riverside County, and Fresno County plus the police departments of Brawley, Indio, Fresno, and Los Angeles were pooled with the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The nationwide manhunt is decribed in detail, including the capture and confession of Pennington.
This murder had a chilling effect on the people of Brawley. The crime which occurred almost one half century ago still lingers in the minds of those who lived there and with those who participated in the investigation and trial.
